Math Teacher Accused Of Having Sex With Davidsen Middle Student - No Bail For Middle School Teacher In Student Sex Case

TAMPA - A middle school math teacher was arrested today and accused by the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office of having sex with a 15-year-old boy.

Stephanie Marie Ragusa, 28, of 15324 Lake Bella Vista Drive, Tampa, was charged with five counts of lewd and lascivious battery.

According to the sheriff’s office, Ragusa had a sexual relationship with the teen when she was a teacher at Davidsen Middle School in Tampa last year. The teen, whose name was withheld by the sheriff’s office because he is a juvenile, was not a student of Ragusa’s, authorities said.

Ragusa and the 15-year-old had sex five times from Oct. 1, 2006 to May 4, 2007, investigators said.

One of the encounters took place while the teen should have been in an after-school class and others occurred in Ragusa’s car and apartment, the sheriff’s office said.

Ragusa currently works as a math teacher at Martinez Middle School in Lutz, school officials said.

She will be placed immediately on paid leave then most likely unpaid leave following a review by the school board, Hillsborough County School District spokesman Steve Hegarty said.

Ragusa was arrested today at her home and is expected to be booked into Orient Road Jail tonight, the sheriff’s office said.

NEW PORT RICHEY – If you thought twice in three weeks was enough, think again.  Late Monday, Pasco County officials said a 40-year-old substitute teacher has been charged with having sex with an underage male student.

Deputies say Lisa Robyn Marinelli is charged with sexual battery on a minor.  Marinelli is a substitute teacher with the Pasco County school district, and deputies say the boy is a student at Mitchell High School.

According to investigators, they had been keeping an eye on her since back in February, when the boy’s father reported seeing his son get out of the teacher’s car while pulling up his pants. 

Detectives say the boy’s father turned his son’s cell phone over to investigators, and they found a number of text messages between the two still stored on it.  Many of them, they say, were sexually charged, and investigators say the messages could be a major key to the case.

Deputies also say Marinelli gave the boy a pair of her underwear as a memento.

Some of Marinelli’s neighbors told FOX 13 they’re surprised by the news.

“I’m shocked,” said Elliot Mebima, who lives near Marinelli.  “I just hope it’s not true.  I mean, it’s my neighbor, you know?”

According to deputies, Marinelli is married and has two children.  She bonded out of jail late Monday night.

Marinelli is the third teacher arrested in the Bay Area on sex charges in little over a week.

Last Thursday, 45-year-old Freedom High School teacher Mary Jo Spack - an honors English instructor- was arrested on similar charges.  The week before that, deputies arrested 28-year-old Stephanie Ragusa on charges that she had a sexual relationship with a boy who was a student at Davidsen Middle School in Tampa, where she previously worked.
