Dang ticks or whatever which gave me this illness.  But I find it hard to think kindly of people who say things like, oh, I had a bad cold the other day and it made me think of your struggle and helped me to have compassion for you and (other people with chronic illnesses/medical conditions).

Yep, I still judge other people on their battles and think some are harder than others.

Anyway, it looks like the author of this quote is unknown.

I wonder if he felt that way after he was sold into slavery.

I wonder what this quote is really supposed to mean.  Cuz I don’t think I had any hard battles to fight most of my life.  So that wouldn’t have been a reason to be kind to me.

Being happy with what I have.  It’s not uncommon to hear stuff from my friends like “We put a bid down on a house last week, but we were outbid by someone who paid in cash”.  It’s “tough” in an area where a $100k salary is relatively low.

I have seen a good deal of the world, and yes, I know that it’s nothing when people are starving to death or living through civil war.  People judge the depth of their despair against their surroundings, and when everyone has well enough food and shelter, people will still find battles like “how do I afford a house” or “how do I pay for college”.

^ I need to be like that as well.  I know that I’m very lucky but I still feel that I’m barely treading water and living day-to-day, probably because it’s been 4 years since I’ve had a ‘stable’ job.

Unstable or unemployment is one of the harder ones, I think.

i think i’m in the same boat. i haven’t really had a stable job since 2008, and even though i think i’m pretty lucky to be where i am now, the past couple of years of job instability has done some damage to me financially.
