Yes, but only if you use vacation time.  And I’d say for only one day if it’s a break-up.  I think missing more time due to a divorce is expected.

I know people take time off to attend funerals, but they still work otherwise.

I’ve gone through the pain, but I think focusing on work actually helps distract you from it.  This may be insensitive, but I think if someone is so distraught that they can’t handle work, they’re probably not very mentally stable to begin with.  I do know people like that though.  You can choose to use your time off for it.

I think the Sandra Bullock case is a little different though.  Her job involves not just putting on a smiling face in public, but also doing that as a public image of herself.  And that’s a public image that involves the relationship, so I think it’s understandable why she doesn’t want to show up for a premier.  People will talk either way.

^^is it wrong to use sick days?  i think a day, maybe 2 is alright, but then one should probably get back a regular schedule.

I think it’s wrong to use sick days for personal days off.  I don’t think “mental-health days” are really sick days.  I guess it depends on what’s normal for your office.

So you only need to have 6.5 kids in order to not work for 10 years in Sweden?

That’s because two men can’t produce a baby.  You gay.

Shit, I see people with that many kids who don’t work in Chicago.

imo, if you feel unfit to work that day for any reason, take a sick day. Better to take a sick day off than come into work pissed off and being a downer to your co-workers / creating a toxic work environment

i’ve taken sick days during times i needed to catch up on studies, preoccupied with drama, or not *really* sick but feeling i was coming down with something and could use the rest.

to me, it’s all about “will i be productive at work today?”, if yes, go to work. If not, stay home. I still take less sick days than most, i think 3 days total in the last year. once for needing more time to study for a test, twice for being ‘kind of sick’, *would* still be able to work but i’d be almost unproductive and maybe get worse if i go in today, and im sure my co-workers wouldn’t appreciate me coughing up a storm everywhere.

for the poll, i voted yes. i wouldn’t wanna work with someone who’s being a downer. if you’re in a world of hurt, stay home
