USA v. Japan

Korea v. Venezuela

Anyone going to watch the games? I have a couple friends down south who are going and a few friends who are planning to drive down to LA.

Looks like Korea will be in the finals. smile It’s very tempting. I might try to make it down if game is on Saturday.

Game will be pretty exciting today. A little part of me wants to drive down to watch, but I bet ticket prices are pretty $$ now. I know that box price is something like $70 for close seats.

KOREA!!!!!!!!

Too bad it’s being played tonight. If it was on a weekend, I’d totally go.

i learned something i didn’t know from bruce jenkins’ blog about korean baseball:

There were only four South Koreans in the majors last season, and if you’ve seen this team play at all, you know that’s going to change. “In terms of our skill level, I believe there is no major difference between the major leagues and our Korean players,” said Shin-Soo Choo, ticketed to play right field for the Cleveland Indians this year. The problem, according to a baseball official who spoke to Yahoo Sports, is that players in the Korea Baseball Organization—aside from having military obligations—aren’t granted free agentry until after nine seasons, and there is no posting system (the one that brought Ichiro and Daisuke Matzusaka to America) as there is in Japan. Choo was that rare Korean player who was signed (by Seattle) directly out of high school . . .
