Google News has been alternating layouts for me, which makes it confusing because I get used to one, then it changes back.  I think they’re testing.

What’s your preferred format and bit rate for music in iTunes, etc.?  Can you hear the difference in quality?

years ago i did my own listening tests with friends using LAME.  We could definitely hear the difference for mp3s below 192kbps, but 192 and up were pretty good.

I’ve been using 128kbps aac as well, since it’s supposed to compare favourably with 192kbps mp3s.

hm… i imported a CD using the default 128 kbps AAC and could tell there was a loss in quality even before comparing side by side with Apple lossless of the CD.  it seems fairly easy to tell the difference between the 128 kbps AAC and CD quality.  But I thought the 160 kbps mp3 was better quality than the 128 kbps AAC.  It was harder to tell the difference between the 160 mp3 and the CD quality, than between the 128 AAC and CD.  I’m going to test again now that you mentioned that.

This is probably the wrong forum, but since there’s a couple of lawyers/law students here, you might be able to summarize for me what the Bilski decision means for software patents.  From what I’m reading on tech blogs, there seems to be plenty of cheering going on because the decision disqualifies software patents.

However, to me it sounds like software patents will still fall under the whole machine-or-transformation requirement, the decision just kills stupid business process patents like Amazon’s One-click.

^^ Is it the same as the $1199 one directly from Apple?

http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/shop_mac/family/imac

I browsed MacMall too before I bought my Mac Mini.  They seem to have good deals on older models and for some reason sell the same products cheaper than Apple?

Anyone have a G1/iPhone + netbook? I want both, but it seems like overkill.

Is there any sort of Web service where you can highlight things in articles and have the highlighting saved as well as be able to send a link of the highlighted version to people?  And maybe “jot notes in the margin” too?

similar concept.  haven’t tried it, but the OCR sounds cool:

I just got this as a christmas present: canon-rebel-xsi.jpg :D so now I have to buy a new memory card.

Should I go for:

http://www.bestbuy.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?sku_id=0926INGFS10096935&catid=20093&logon;=&langid=EN
Sandisk 8GB SDHC Ultra II for $20

or

http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&sku_id=0665000FS10109416&catid;=
Kingston 16GB SDHC Class 4 Memory Card, also for $20.

or

http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&sku_id=0665000FS10106867&catid;=
Lexar Platinum II 8GB SDHC Memory Card (SD8GB-60-709), $18

or, is it worthwhile to spring for one of these?
http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&sku_id=0665000FS10090132&catid;=
ATP 8GB High Speed SDHC Memory Card, for $30

This is totally insane, how cheap memory cards are.
