I don’t recall if anyone suggested ham radio for communications in case of an infrastructure breakdown, but that’s apparently what was used when wires were cut down in Morgan Hill.

Google Talk. I don’t understand how to use it effectively.  Either you sign in and every e-mail contact can see you or not.  Or I have to go through each contact (hundreds) and manually block or allow them?  No groups like Yahoo Messenger?

So for now I don’t even sign in.  I’m only figuring this stuff out now because up till now I haven’t really been well enough to do the real-time chat.

My suggestion, is click the little arrow under your name, beside “Set status here”.  Set yourself to invisible.
No groups though, at least, not in the Gmail client.  I haven’t been using the separate client.

Yeah, that is what I’ve been doing but I want some people to be able to see when I’m online.  They don’t have a bulk edit function.  What are they thinking...?  I didn’t even know there’s no Google Talk for Mac, only the GMail chat.

Are there any software that can transcribe podcasts?

From reviews, Nuance’s software seems to only handle one speaker at a time.

I tried uploading one to Youtube but the transcription isn’t that good.

Well, I guess if the above don’t have a solution, it probably doesn’t exist for consumers.

Hm, I did hear about mechanical turk, but I assumed it would be more expensive than I’d want to pay, unless there are some English speakers in India willing to work for < 1 cent per word. raspberry

I was trying to find a way to send an MP3 to Google Voice.  It looked like there might be a way with Google Talk but there’s no Google Talk on Mac, and I think Google Voice limits the length.

i’ve heard of dragon software which transcribes your voice to text. i’m not sure radio or podcasts would work though.
