And the title of this movie is.....Hula Girls?  (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0768116/ - missed it at film-fest this past year)

I just sat through a surprisingly good movie.  I picked it up because the thought of some snaggle-toothed japanese girls doing hula would be kinda hot.  But I really, really enjoyed it.  I even teared up once or twice and I’m an emotional retard.

It’s a japanese movie about how a small mining town tries to stay alive when the plant starts to downsize by creating a hawaiian-themed tourist attraction.  It’s got that whole ragtag group of misfits who are trying to learn and the teacher who’s lost her passion… but it was just really well done.  I recommend it if you ever get a chance to rent it and are looking for a nice warm-fuzzy-feeling movie.

On a random tangent..

Early reviews have the new Bond movie coming in not only short, but generic and lacking finesse:

kfc, you had me worried there for a moment.

rottentomatoes it’s doing a healthy 79%.

And dude, listening to a Variety movie review is like going to Dunkin Donuts for pizza critiquing.

a homeless kid from the slums of mumbai end up on the indian who wants to be a millionaire show and is 1 question away from 20 million rupees. he’s intercepted by cops or whatever bc they think he’s cheating. since there’s no way a kid from the streets could get all those questions right.  he tells tales of his life in the slums and in each tale is an answer to each of the questions.

aside from the interesting plot. it seriously if a fantastic, well-made, well directed and well acted movie.

i watched sex and the city with my gf on halloween night and it was about what i thought it would be.  not great, but about right with the show.  incidentally, i ripped the dvd for my gf and have an ipod video version if anybody would like.  it’s 1.65 gigs, 640x360 (quality’s alright on a 20” screen)

I think my friend’s worries are warranted; Bond might be becoming the generic Bourne-like action hero frachise.

I have no problem with that though as long as I’m entertained.

While Die Hard becomes bond-esque.

Still getting 67 on Metacritic. Way worse than Casino Royale but still above the other bond films in the last several years.

As for Hula Girls, on a whim I started to watch it online. I’m about 15 minutes in so far and I’m not sure this movie is grabbing me.

just watched “a guide to recognizing your saints.” I dunno.  It was just ok.  I though that a few of the performances were exceptionally well done (Antonio), but overall the movie felt unfinished and the editing left me confused at times.

I still haven’t watched this movie...and I’ve known about it for at least a year.  O_o

I have a strange desire to see Jean Claude Van Damme in his new(er) movie, JCVD:
