Ron Paul reminds me of my roomate. He’s always complaining about things, and most of the time he has a point. The problem is he never offers a solution.
Get rid of IRS? Great. We’ll fund America with huge raises in sales and property tax.
Oh, wait, he’ll cut back the government spending (I love the idea), and cut off the military, homeland security, and other bloated services like medicare and social security? wonderful, but what kind of chaos would that leave this country in, considering so many people are dependent on government services?
Get rid of the Federal Reserve? Sure, we’ll go back to the gold standard. We’ll have bank panics like the good old days. Money won’t be particularly liquid, and it’ll be really hard to borrow $500K for your shack in Milpitas. I really think America spends way too much on credit anyways. But the result is also going to be that housing prices are going to drop as no one can afford even $800K houses anymore. Any one with significant net worth in their houses are screwed. Businesses will also have problems borrowing and you’ll see the economy slow overall. Not good for your US equities. Not to say that if the government borrows, foreign borrowing will become a bigger avenue.
Sure, I agree with a lot of his points about the problem with this country, and although I’m sure he does a great job delivering babies, I don’t think he can deliver any solutions. Just look at his track history of getting things done in Texas, what makes you think he can get anything done at the Federal level?
