Cuz if the single player is the fried chicken, then the multiplayer is the kimchee.

And I’m sure the kimchee is softer than the potatoes.
But it may burn.

It looks to be the same thing as the previous GTA’s.  It’s the next newest iteration....but yeah, I think the big thing about this title is going to be the multiplayer, which I haven’t tried yet.  The single player up to this point feels the same, except that it looks alot better (same clipping issues though as with the previous ones).

There are some new distractions that I’m enjoying t....like instead of just radio, watching the t.v. programming in GTA4 is hilarious.  I’m looking forward to what other new things I haven’t seen yet.

I was surprised that after randomly popping some random woman in the face, I already had police all over me.  I’m glad that the police don’t do that cheap thing of being able to grab and open the car door when the my car’s obviously moving too fast for that to be even physically possible.

As Jayroam said, it’s crazy how much time passes before you realize you’ve been playing too much.  smile

^ glad to hear an okay-review about GTA IV. Everyone’s been giving it hand jobs left & right lately.

But I’m relatively new to the GTA franchise. So I’ll be overwhelmed regardless.

This is what I like about GTA IV, which I think makes it next gen.

1. Plot and character development.  OK, the past GTA’s had a plot, but I didn’t feel as wrapped up in the storyline or the characters.  I felt the sandbox nature of the game was there in order to make up for things like that.  So far in my GTA IV play, it feels like it IS more mission driven than past GTA’s.  I like the branching story line, I like how decision you make and relationships you build affect later gameplay.  Also, the way the chracter is developed through simple game mechanics is much more expressive than anything from the last gen GTA’s.  You know who Niko Belic reminds me of?  The Viggo Mortensen character from Eastern Promises.  Yeah, Niko walks like a bad ass, but there is a sadness, or resignation in line with that as well.  Like when Niko carjacks people, he doesn’t revel in it, its more like “this is business.” In San Andreas, it was more like thrill crimes, like in the attitude of Menace II Society.

2. Small digit manipulation.  They don’t have fucking Lego hands/GI Joe Kung Fu grip all the damn time.

3. The environment is more interactive.  Pedestrians are more invovled in what goes on.  If you beat on someone, people won’t just run away.  The good citizens of Liberty City will pummel your ass for jumping someone randomly.  And then the cops come and respond to that, and they shoot everyone.  Like real cops.

4. You can shoot fucking pigeons.  I love this.

I’m sure more will be revealed as I play more.

^u know, it took me forever to find that damn brick the other day.  i kept trying to pick up trash cans, then ram my car into the shop. an online guide said to shoot the window, but didn’t have a gun yet.  then a friend told me to find a brick but forgot where he found it.

I had a baseball bat from the previous mission that i used to break the window. just hit it.

anyhow, the things that still make it feel ps2 generation is the amount of people walking around in liberty city. there should be hundreds of people roaming around as well as traffic. the choppy movement of the characters when not in a story mode driven animation, and the way the cars and vehicles handle. they are all reminiscent of ps2 versions. the game physics of the cars is just silly.

i wonder why they rendered the ps3 version only at 640p and the 360 at a higher resolution.

doesn’t the game look super pixelated to you all with 1080p tv’s?

edges of buildings and trees and shit look pretty bad.

samething with madden.  well, it’s 720, but still, why not the full 1080 for the ps3?

Madden was because Tiburon really fucked up Madden for the PS3.  This will be fixed for the new Madden.  But I’m not going to get the new Madden.  I will get college football though.

The rendering was lower on the PS3 so they could achieve a simultaneous launch date.

Rockstar said since they were so new to the PS3 engine that they couldn’t have rendered for a higher resolution without delaying a PS4 launch.  Look for a patch to fix that down the road.

I’m guessing it’s because they get free antialiasing on the xbox’ edram render buffer, but the antiliasing is more costly on the PS3, so they’d rather antialias the lower resolution version.

My other guess is that they want to save the video RAM for more textures, so they’re using less for the low res render buffer.
