Yeah, that’s the conundrum. PS3 nut huggers will say, well that’s why you should have bought a PS3 in the first place and that MS were fool to align themselves with Toshiba and HD-DVD. On the other hand, maybe if Sony made their SKU’s more affordable in the first place, more people would own PS3’s.
The question here is, will Sony be allowing the DL of the latest Blu-Ray firmware and software upgrades to the 360 Blu-Ray? Its the upgrade ability which makes the PS3 such a flexible, systems and allows it to always be at the forefront of Blu-Ray technology. The 2 updates that the PS3 has gotten has made the PS3 the best Blu-Ray player on the market, and made other prior stand alone Blu-Ray players obsolete, because the standalones cannot get the online updates.
Now, with Blu-Ray Live, or whatever the new internet capable Blu-Ray players are going to be called, I’m sure the issue of online system updates will be solved.
But will any of that extend to MS? Also, the storage advantage of the dual layer Blu-Ray Disc, on which PS3 games are made and the standard DVD’s on which the XBox games are made are in question too. Will the Blu Ray drive on the new XBox’s be capable of reading and executing game data?
