naturally, both have their benefits or else it wouldn’t be a question worth asking. one very nice thing about a regular 9-5 is being totally done at 5 and walking away. no need to worry about taking work home or slaving away into the night. but of course, variety is the spice of life. personally, i’d prefer a secure, 9-5 and have the variety in my personal life. i try to separate work and personal stuff as much as i can.
I got a regular job that lets me in at whenever time, as long as i get my projects done by deadline times. Then I got freelance work on the side at the studio and random other crap.
The regular job has super flexible hours and I don’t have a limit on how many days I can take off. I really like my work situation.
i’ve never been a fan of the traditional 9-to-5. throughout this winter, i’d work as a tutor 5pm-9pm, then head to our studio until 5 or 6am. so. nocturnal 9-to-5.
i think my ideal might be a stable freelance job. never running out of short-term projects.
Freelane or stable, the desirable job is the one you want to do. Not the one you reluctantly have to wake up to every morning. -_-

i’m gonna do travel nursing soon. it’s kinda like freelance cause i get to travel 3 months at a time. but i get paid and get benefits of a full time employee… plus agency provides housing and utilities so it’s kind of awesome in that sense...i’ll be able to save more.

sweet, where are you thinking of going?
i’m thinking of heading west… maybe chicago/milwaukee (YES MILWAUKEE! cause i heard it’s kinda like chicago except kyoppo is not there) then SF and maybe Seattle. i’m gonna start in the summer if everything goes as planned.
or get paid a lot more, get to travel and always working on a different project?
i’ve had both.
if you want a life or a stable relationship you need to be in one place. traveling is not all it’s cracked up to be. this past year i went to some really cool places, especially a few cities in europe, but it really was hard to start or maintain a GF of any sort. what good is a lotta $ when all you do is work and live out of a suitcase.
i think the younger you are though, take advantage of traveling and the consulting bit. it gives you a lot of good all-around experience.
