PAST
How did this all come about...and why? (as told by Ki Han)

In December of 1997, I visited my homeland Korea for the first time in 18 years. I came to the United States as a young FOP (fresh off the plane), trying to fit in with rest of the kids at my school. As a result, I grew up not paying too much attention to my culture or heritage. I mean, yeah... I spoke, read, and kinda wrote my native language Korean, but I wasn't really concerned about learning my culture, but that of assimilation. Then the opportunity to visit Korea came, and I haven't been the same ever since.

I was exposed to a lifestyle and culture that I've neglected for past 18 years, and I came back from the trip fascinated with Asian people, culture, food, lifestyle, etc... It was then that I decided that I wanted to do something for myself, as well as for others similar to me.

About 2-3 months after coming back from my trip, I started coming across various Asian magazines (many of them no longer around). After browsing through a few of them, I became inspired to do something along the same lines as them, but better. I noticed that many of these magazines all said basically the same thing in one way or another, and I wanted to fill the so-called "void" that the other magazines left behind.

I spent many months building the foundation for II stix along with my high school buddy and then partner, Chris, collecting stories, coming up with ideas, and spending countless hours in front of the computer working.

Over the course of 4 years, the site grew from a tiny website updating whenever to a full blown entertainment site that was updated daily. Site was read in over 30 countries with tens of thousands readers, and those numbers grew at an alarming rate. And all this from just word of mouth. Site also garnered attention of many publication as a "cool" and "hip" Asian site to keep an eye on.

PRESENT
With the improvements in technology and more experience, II stix returned with new design and technology. With a new perspective and attitude, we have plans to make II stix into a bigger and better community where everyone can feel at home. The Internet provides an excellent opportunity for Asians of all types to come together, and we want II stix to be the place where that happens.

Lastly, thank you for reading II stix! We really do appreciate it... and we hope you come back often! Now stop reading this intro and get on to the good stuff... that's right, I'm talking to you!
